Flower and Herb Barn Nursery at the Farmhouse Cafe in Nineveh, IndianaWay back in the 1800s, someone built a sturdy brick farmhouse on some good land in Brown County, Indiana, between the small towns of Nashville and Nineveh. A little while later on, the place blossomed into a plant and flower nursery. Today, that same verdant property features one of the most unique restaurants in Indiana, simply named the Farmhouse Cafe and Tea Room.

Getting to the Farmhouse Cafe and Tea Room is an essential part of the whole unusual experience. Whichever direction you’re coming from, you’ll enjoy a captivating and beautiful journey. And once you arrive at your destination, you’ll want to stroll the grounds with your camera, taking in the lovely Flower and Herb Barn in which the Cafe is set, the shaded leafy paths, neat beds of herbs, flowers, trees and other plants, a pond with a weeping willow, garden art and birdhouses.Outside porch-patio at the Farmhouse Cafe in Nineveh, Indiana

When you get to the old wood and brick farmhouse next to the nursery, you’ll feel like you just came home for a meal. The main dining room is a pleasant collection of antiques and mismatched tables and chairs of different colors and shapes. Old-fashioned flower-printed cloths adorn the tables, while rough antique dish cupboards and sideboards adorn the Farmhouse walls. You’ll swear you just landed in a venerable old country restaurant on a farm in the south of France. And when you taste the light, flavorful country fare, you’ll know the American Heartland has nothing better to offer.

Sit inside or kick back on the homey patio, sipping a Kiwi Fruit Fizz, Herb Barn Lemonade or Mango Mint Cooler. The menu itself sports so many unusual and tempting options you’ll have a hard time making up your mind, and each dish takes full advantage of the fresh herbs and vegetables grown right outside the door.

For lunch, try the Garden Lover’s Vegetarian Sandwich, the Chicken Salad with Rosemary and Dill, the Chicken Papaya Salad, the Honey-Baked Ham, the Roasted Turkey on homemade bread or the house Avocado and Smoked Fish Salad. Couple your sandwich or salad with some homemade soup, whipped up just that day using the freshest, best garden vegetables and lots of herbs, and you have the makings of an unforgettable meal.Take a stroll around the lovely herb gardens at the Farmhouse Restaurant in Nineveh, Indiana

Dinner is likewise mind-boggling, with options such as the juicy Farmhouse Sirloin Steak, Brown County Grilled Pork Chop and Summer Chicken Breast with Spinach Stuffing. It’s all the epitome of world-class country cooking with a touch of Provence tossed in for spice.

Something new at the Farmhouse Cafe and Tea Room is their ability to host private group parties. Looking for a very special place to gather? This Nashville-Nineveh restaurant, just about a half-hour’s drive south of Indianapolis, will provide sumptuous party food, tons of pretty photo ops and long-lasting memories.
